Library Advisory Board Minutes - 09/17/20191 s LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES Sept.17, 2019 MEMBERS PRESENT: Amy Bobrowitz Suhua Huang Kimberley Rowley Michael Smith Kym Acuna Emily Adams Jana Hausburg Blake Jurecek MEMBERS ABSENT Emily Reeves Carolyn Watt -Sutherland Jim Sernoe Bobby Whiteley Alan Martin Librarian's report Minutes were approved from May. Ms. Hausburg reported that she has processed purchase requisitions for furniture pieces for the children's area using funds received from the CHAIR-ity auction. A set of table and chairs, a small loveseat, and an overstaffed chair are the first pieces to come in. Staff is working on getting a train table assembled and ready for children to "check out" trains to use in-house. With luck, the adult sized furniture should arrive by the end of the month. A general overview of the summer's reading program was presented by Angela Hill, Assistant Administrator, Information. Ms. Hill reported that this summer, WFPL revamped and launched Summer Read on a grand scale, with a focus was on reading for all ages instead of limiting it to only school -age participants. Participants were entered into a grand prize drawing when finishing the reader's goal. To earn incentives, pre -readers (children ages 0-5) worked on early literacy activities such as singing and shapes/colors/letter recognition while kids (ages 6-11) read for 150 minutes per milestone. Teens (ages 12-18) and adults (19 and up) read books and challenged themselves to read outside their usual genres and found it to be an enjoyable aspect of the program. Incentives for milestones along the way included free books (the favorite among participants) to add to their personal collection, McDonald's free ice cream coupons, small toys, WFPL branded earbuds, etc. Total participant sign-up for Summer Read 2019 was 1287, which compared to the last Summer Read Program for WFPL totaled 761 participants in 2016. The library was supported by local organizations who provided the grand prizes: Castaway Cove supplied entry tickets for a family of four, Crashworx supplied a gift certificate for an experience, and Riverbend Nature Center supplied a family entry for the day. Two of the library's digital resource vendors provided devices for the grand prize drawing. In summary, 2019 Summer Read was a huge success. The community was happy to participate and excited about earning incentives and getting a chance at winning a grand prize. There have been two staff changes, with Janice Bailey (Systems Librarian) leaving for a job in Norman, Oklahoma, and Susan Cooper (Youth Service Librarian) to teach in Burkburnett. Andrew Badger is the new Systems Librarian, and he started on September 311. Kelley Turpin will be the new Youth Services Librarian, and she starts on September 30tn The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) department received notice that due to their efforts, the library will be receiving a federally funded reimbursement award of $14,282 from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for interlibrary loan lends (1698) made to Texas public libraries between September 1, 2018-July 31, 2019. "Finding Fallstown", the library's book featuringthe reading raccoon mascots and the downtown area, was distributed for the group to look at. 100 copies have been printed, and 2 boxes have been sold. More than likely the library will process another order. Next meeting is October 15tn at 4: 30 p.m. There being no further business, meeting was adjourned at 5:05 p.m. Signature:
