Ordinance amending Article VII Bicycles, of the Code of Ordinances,
at Section 102-256, Riding on roadways and bicycle paths
WHEREAS, Aviation, Traffic, and Transportation recommend a revision of Chapter
14, Article VII, Section 102-256, Riding on roadways and bicycle paths; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council for the City of Wichita Falls desires to protect cyclists
by providing a safe place for bicycle riders to operate their bicycle.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
Section 102-256 of Article VII Bicycles, of the Code of Ordinances is hereby
amended so that such section shall hereafter read as follows:
-256. Riding on roadways and bicycle paths.
(a) or street, that is
designated by official signs or markings for use by persons riding bicycles
except as otherwise provided.
(b)
signs and pavement markings for preferential or exclusive use by bicycles.
(c) Whenever a bicycle path has been provided adjacent to a roadway, bicycle
riders shall use such path.
(d) Whenever a bicycle lane has been provided on a roadway, bicycle riders
shall use such lane.
(e) A person operating a bicycle shall not be expected or required to:
1. Ride over or through hazards at the edge of a roadway, including but
not limited to fixed or moving objects, parked or moving vehicles,
bicycles, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards, or narrow lanes; or
2. Ride without a reasonable safety margin on the right-hand side of the
roadway.
