Librarian’s report
Ms. Hausburg reported that Thrift Books is now taking materials which have been withdrawn due to the library’s
weeding project. This is in addition to the materials being sent to the Friends of the Library. Some withdrawn
juvenile materials are being sent to McNiel Middle School. Other gifted items may go to the WF Literacy Council.
Ms. Adams presented her idea for an event which would raise money for new furnishings in the Youth
department. Some of the library’s oak wooden chairs would be offered to local artists, art teachers, art students,
and other interested individuals to paint or decorate as they wish. Then the Board could sell/auction them off.
We could advertise and promote the sale/auction through social media, the news stations and newspaper and
on That City Show beforehand to get people excited about them.
The Board liked this idea and voted in favor of pursing it. Ms. Adams agreed to spearhead the effort, with the
goal of having chairs ready by the first Art Walk in Spring of 2019. She and Ms. Huang will coordinate and report
their actions at the December meeting.
Ms. Hausburg asked the Board to review the artwork submitted for the library’s Centennial art competition. She
provided a rubric to assist in judging the art pieces. First, second, and 4 honorable mention awards will be given
th
at a reception on Nov. 13 at 5:30-7 p.m. She suggested that rather than having a meeting that day, the Board
attend the reception instead. This was acceptable to those in attendance.
There being no new business, meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
Next meeting is November 13, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.
