The Chair asked that all members introduce themselves, and welcomed two new members: Emily Adams and Michael Smith. Librarian's resort Ms. Hausburg provided an Infographic with a summary of events from the library's summer programming. She also mentioned some of the big events which took place during the summer, including the Centennial celebration at the Kemp Center for the Arts, the creation of blood pressure cuff kits for check-out by customers, hosting a History Harvest and Film Roundup in collaboration with the Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) and Humanities Texas, the creation of a mural to celebrate our next 100 years of service, and work toward creating a makerspace in the Youth Department. Ms. Watt -Sutherland asked for a follow-up on an item in the May minutes, which stated that Ms. Hausburg was researching additional methods for discarding withdrawn books in preparation for a large weeding project. The weeding project has been ongoing since June. The Friends of the WFPL Library continue to take a large amount of discarded materials each week. Additional juvenile books have been channeled to local schools. Ms. Hausburg reached out to other libraries similar in size to WFPL. She found that these libraries utilize not only their Friend's groups, but also send books to used bookstores, which then sell the books and return a portion of the funds back to the libraries. The board like this idea and asked to implement this process at WFPL. Ms. Hausburg will research the process and present at next month's meeting. Ms. Hausburg then provided a tour of the library for LAB members and presented an idea for board involvement in looking for funding to purchase new furniture for the Youth Commons. Additional ideas for raising funds for new furniture will be discussed at next month's meeting. There being no new business, meeting was adjourned at 5:30 p.m. Next meeting is Octoberl6, 2018 at 4:30 p.m.
