Res 054-2006 4/4/2006 RESOLUTION NO. �_c7�JCJ� RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR $34,000.00 IN GRANT FUNDS FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY/UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION — ASSISTANCE TO FIRE FIGHTER GRANTS PROGRAM TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES NECESSARY TO INSTITUTE A FIRE DEPARTMENT WELLNESS AND FITNESS PROGRAM; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the tasks that firefighters face at the incident scene can be extremely physically demanding and must be performed without warm-up and nearly always under environmentally hostile conditions; and WHEREAS, due to the nature of the profession firefighter injuries and life threatening illnesses are a constant concern and occur at a higher rate than most professions; and WHEREAS, statistics have shown that a fire department wellness and fitness program can help to reduce the frequency of firefighter injury and life threatening illness, thereby reducing the costs incurred by the City in terms of workers comp and overtime to compensate for the injured firefighter. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. That the City Manager be authorized to apply for grant funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency/United States Fire Administration — Assistance to Fire Fighter Grants Program for the purchase of equipment and professional services necessary to institute a Fire Department Wellness and Fitness Program. SECTION 2. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
