RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR
$262,572.00 IN GRANT FUNDS FROM THE UNITED STATES
DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY THROUGH THE STAFFING
FOR ADEQUATE FIRE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE (SAFER)
GRANTS FOR THE ADDITION OF SIX (6) FIREFIGHTERS (TWO PER
SHIFT); FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH
THIS RESOLUTION WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS
REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, Texas S.B. 382 mandates that four (4) firefighters be assembled on
the scene of a working structure fire before entry into the structure can be made; and
WHEREAS, the Wichita Falls Fire Department at this time is not adequately
staffed to comply with this law without awaiting arrival of additional fire units; and
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Homeland Security is offering a
grant program to assist with funding for additional fire personnel.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Manager be authorized to apply for grant funding in the
amount of $262,572.00 from the United States Department of Homeland Security
through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants for
the addition of six (6) firefighter positions.
SECTION 2. The City Council hereby certifies that it acknowledges and commits
to making appropriations for the local cost sharing obligations of the grant program,
SECTION 3. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this resolution was passed was open to the public as required by law.
