ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA
FALLS, TEXAS, TO CERTIFY RESULTS OF THE ELECTION OF THE
WICHITA FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT, AS PROVIDED BY CHAPTER
142 OF THE TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE; FINDING AND
DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE
WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls received a petition, asking the City Council
to recognize the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association as the sole and exclusive
bargaining agent for the Wichita Falls Police Department; and,
WHEREAS, on August 15, 2006, the City Council ordered a certification election
to determine whether the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association represents a majority
of the covered police officers; and,
WHEREAS, on September 5, 6, and 7, the election was conducted at the
Wichita Falls Police Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. One Hundred Forty Nine police officers voted "yes" to the ballot
question whether the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association shall represent them as
the sole and exclusive bargaining agent under Chapter 142 of the TExAS LocA�
GOVERNMENT CODE;
Six police officers voted "no" to the ballot question whether the Wichita Falls
Police Officers Association shall represent them as the sole and exclusive bargaining
agent under Chapter 142 of the TExas Loca� GovERNMENT Co�E.
SECTION 2. It is hereby determined that the Wichita Falls Police Officers
Association represents a majority of the covered police officers for the purposes of
meet and confer, aS pfOVlded ift Chaptef 142 Of the TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE.
SECTION 3. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
