ORDINANCE NO. 79-2006
ORDINANCE, ESTABLISHING TAXICAB RATES IN THE CITY OF
WICHITA FALLS; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING
AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE
PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 106-2000 was adopted October of 2000 and sets
forth the allowable rates that can be charged for taxicab service within the city limits of
Wichita Falls, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Section 110-192 allows franchise holders the right to request rate
increases; and
WHEREAS, the two franchise holders have submitted requests to increase rates
and said requests have been reviewed by City staff.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1 . In accordance with Section 110, Vehicles For Hire, of the Code of
Ordinances, Section 110-191, beginning October 19, 2006, the following
schedule of maximum rates and fares that taxicabs may charge shall become
effective and shall supersede any schedule of rates and fares heretofore
provided:
1.1 The flag drop charge is $2.50 and $.0.38 for each fifth of a mile or
fraction thereof traveled, and $1.00 for each additional passenger
transported on the same trip.
1.2 For each one minute of waiting time during each trip, the rate shall
be $0.32, except for each one minute of waiting time befinreen the
hours of 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and 2:00 a.m. of
the following morning, the rate shall be $0.42.
1.3 The rate of fare for all additional baggage over two pieces shall be
$1.00;
1.4 Nothing herein shall prohibit charges less than the above stated
rates and fares, excepted as provided in Section 1.5.
1.5 For trips originating at Sheppard Air Force Base and terminating
non-stop at Sikes Senter Mall or Century City/Plaza and for trips
originating at Sikes Senter Mall or Century City/Plaza and
terminating non-stop at Sheppard Air Force Base, a fixed rate of
$18.00 per trip shall be charged regardless of the number of
passengers carried. Discounts shall not be allowed unless
approved by the City in advance.

1.6 The per-mile surcharge shall be as follows:

$4.60 to $4.79 $0.55
$4.80 to $4.99 $0.60
$5.00 and above $0.65
SECTION 2. Ordinance No. 106-2000 is hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at
which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
