Ord 80-2006 10/3/2006 ORDINANCE NO. �O - ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, REGARDING THE RECOGNITION OF THE WICHITA FALLS POLICE ASSOCIATION AS THE SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE BARGAINING AGENT FOR THE NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEES OF THE WICHITA FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF MEET AND CONFER PROVIDED BY CHAPTER 142 OF THE TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE; FINDING AND DETERMINING THAT THE MEETING AT WHICH THIS ORDINANCE WAS PASSED WAS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS REQUIRED BY LAW. WHEREAS, the City of Wichita Falls received a petition asking the City Council to recognize the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association as the sole and exclusive bargaining agent for the Wichita Falls Police Department; and, WHEREAS, on August 15, 2006, the City Council ordered a certification election to determine whether the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association represents a majority of the non-exempt police officers; and, WHEREAS, on September 19, 2006, the City Council certified the results of the election, which determined the Wichita Falls Police O�cers Association represents a majority of the non-exempt police officers for the purposes of Meet and Confer, as pfOVlded I11 Chaptel' 142 Of th2 TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENT CODE. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The issue of whether the City may Meet and Confer with the Wichita Falls Police Officers Association should be submitted to the voters at the next general municipal election, as authorized by Chapter 142 of the TExas Loca� GOVERNMENT CODE. SECTION 3. It is hereby officially found and determined that the meeting at which this ordinance was passed was open to the public as required by law.
